Time is a beautiful thing. Don't waste it.

Time is a beautiful thing that we really do not cherish enough. With people we love. With the work we do. But it's not that time is something to waste, it's something to enjoy. Each and every moment. When you drink tea. When you sit with your loved one. When you learn about something new whether from a book or your friend sitting beside you. When you look at the bark on a tree. When you are working to make a difference in someone's life. If you take time to truly focus on what is inside and out, you will experience joy from that moment having appreciated that time. You accepted that time. You experienced the moment and everything that comes with it.

Today I just found an amazing watch collection that took me back in my time. I remember when my father returned back from Lebanon with a watch I found called the Casio CMD-40. I fell in love with it. From what I remember this hadn't even hit the isle of Australia. Such a land that gets mostly everything last, but who knows I was a kid...

It was the coolest thing I had ever seen in my life at the time. A watch which had secret power. Infrared beams to kill screens and change things in the world. All I had to do was press a button and point - weirdly sounding like 'Click' the movie right now - anyways... I remember after a year of wearing this watch, the band broke! I was so upset and cried over it. It sat in my cupboard for years. Until only last year, I bought the original band on eBay. My excitement could not be contained. Putting that thing back on my hand made me remember how curious I was. How much I wanted to learn about everything tech and electronic. It was amazing. It was a little scuffed and I needed money so I decided to let go and sell it to someone else who would relish in its ultimate retro coolness.

I remember having the power in my hand, kinda like Spy Kids with those holographic watches which I always imagined inventing. It looked like this! This powerhouse would be my weapon in disguise as I used to turn off TV's in the house sneakily or that one time in the cinema when I turned off this huge movie trailer TV. Now that felt cool! People were turning heads! Or that other time when I went into a TV store and turned off all the TVs for fun. The looks on the sales guys was hilarious as they tried to sell to their customers.

Anyways - what was the best thing about these watches was the power to change the world in some way. To make it more fun. To play with the world. It wasn't just your TV anymore. It was 'mine' to play with! So was your VCR, DVD Player and everything else infrared - muhaha. All I needed was this watch!

And look what I came across today. The most coolest instagram on the net - https://www.instagram.com/waktujitu

This is definitely a cool watch I would wear everyday.

This one makes me feel like a cool cyber upgrade to the CMD-40 I had. Want bruh.

I am not sure when this was made but all I know is this looks sick!

To tie this off remember this. Don't watch the clock. Be present in every moment. Every moment.

Paving the door to justice - a modern legal directory concept

Around three months ago I came up with the idea of a modern legal directory that allows people to find the right lawyer for their problem in minutes using AI. People (or justice seekers) simply describe their issue in their own words, and AI, powered by OpenAI GPT-4.0, classifies the type of legal problem and identifies the appropriate lawyer needed to solve it. It would then show several lawyers in their local area who can solve their problem.

People are more than capable to describe their personal problem to others (online and offline), and after looking at several legal directories they all had a unique problem. They all assumed that people understood their legal problem and thus could select their ‘legal category/issue’. These systems are not designed for most people who have not dealt with the law.

We often wonder why access to justice is an issue and the problem is looking at us dead in the eye. Not only is the cost of legal services a barrier, but also how difficult it can be for people to simply find the right lawyer for their specific legal problem.

You might argue ‘but Google’? Google gives you 100s of results across 1000s of pages across millions of words of legal information for a single person to digest. Besides not all people know what to type in - they just know their story.
All people need is one definitive answer. This is why a seeker might take up days or several weeks before they get proper legal advice from a lawyer. Referral upon referral. Fatigued. Stressed. Tired.

Having realised this, an amazing friend and developer Tim Grillmeier and I built https://ai.leeway.legal in a month. It's a live and working demo (or proof of concept) that demonstrates how people can find the right lawyer in minutes. There should be one place for all people to find the right lawyer, but that is unrealistic. What we need is a change across Australia, if not globally. All legal directories should consider how to help people find the right lawyer for the right legal advice within reasonable time.

Because of this, I have decided to openly share this concept. I am willing to collaborate and demonstrate how the system works but it should come alongside a solid plan to fast-track the legal profession into the modern digital era.

We must accelerate the digitalisation of our profession that will provide the foundation for on-demand justice and guidance that people deserve.

But what about the lawyers? More work? More stress? I think the opposite. Embracing this change will see that lawyers become happier and more efficient using modern tools and find more working opportunities.

Feel free to share this to any connections you see fit. You can check out https://leeway.legal.

A family man and a lawyer - does it mix?

When I was in law school, I was seriously concerned about how lawyers managed their lives and careers. How would they juggle being a parent in such a dedicated and demanding legal sector? Personally, as someone who wanted to start a family and bring children into the world, I was seriously concerned about how I could manage that as a lawyer back in law school. I confided in my sister many times, feeling anxious and worried that being a lawyer might prevent me from realising that dream.

During my time as a clerk at several law firms, I encountered people with various attitudes and perspectives on life. What saddened me was that many lawyers I met had strained family ties. They were so absorbed by their legal careers that their families were often sidelined. I came across many who were divorced and unable to maintain a basic work-life balance – and they seemed to accept their fate that the profession was like this. Sometimes, they would expect me to do the same. For me, this was something I could not accept. It was my destiny to grow with my family alongside my career, and having worked in a few firms, I wondered why the legal landscape was like this and maybe those working in the law could share more.

Maybe you can share more about what happened during the lockdown and COVID. Maybe you enjoyed the future of comfortably working from home and being with your families, but I could be wrong. I'd love to hear from those who continue to work from home a few days a week and how it has benefited them!

I genuinely believe that we can have families. We can come home to our loving partners at the end of the day and provide the love they need. We can be happier. We can be more fulfilled in our careers without being overworked. We can deliver the justice people need efficiently. We can find the right workplace that understands us as people. We can grow as individuals. I believe you can lead a better life as a lawyer, and you should believe that too. After all, you are human, and you deserve a life too.

Lawyers, I feel, just want to focus on bringing justice and positive change to their clients - to feel like they have made a difference in the world. Unfortunately the cause is firms continue to be bogged down by tedious tasks such as: legal documentation, client management, filing, marketing, and more. Legal tech has shown how easy this is for firms embracing the future and investing in more value to their clients. I think it is beautiful to see lawyers uniting with tech, breaking barriers to justice and creating better ways of living for themselves.

I invite you to think about this positive and bright future of your profession because I think it will come soon.

How do you think legal tech will improve your life?
